What is ALIS?
ALIS is a registered charity that works on community development and health with people aged fifty plus resident in Sheffield and district. Our work has two main focuses:
- The development and support of Lunch Clubs
- The development and support of Agewell Groups.
Lunch Clubs provide a hot meal on a regular basis for older people who are no longer able to cook for themselves. Agewell Groups provide a twelve weekly rolling health activity programme for their members.
We currently support 175 Lunch Clubs and 100 Agewell Groups with a combined membership of approximately 10,800 older people. All our work is based upon the recruitment, training and support of a network of volunteers who work as either Lunch Clubs Organisers or Agewell Group Leaders.
Volunteers also work as escorts to Lunch Clubs and as Secretaries and Treasurers of Agewell Groups. We currently support over 900 volunteers on a city wide basis.
Who is ALIS?
ALIS is managed for older people by older people. All our trustees are drawn from the groups and lunch clubs we support. Trustees receive the training and support necessary to enable them to carry out their duties. Our Board of Trustees meets monthly and our Annual General Meeting is held in June.
The current trustees are: Alan Hindmarch (Chairperson), Fathir Khan (Vice Chair), Judy Robinson (Company Secretary), Stanley Dawson (Treasurer), Louisa McCormick, Margaret Callaghan, Delia Chadwick, Anjob Ali, Bradley Blake, Dorrett Buckley-Greaves, Ahmed Gul, Mohammed Yaqoob, Doreen Weatherall, Jean White, Peter Garner and Moglish Mia.
